This is one of the many beaches in Chumphon province
Thung Mahkam consists of two semicircular south-west facing bays side by side. They are separated by a small headland called Laem Hin (Stone Cape). The eastern bay (Thung Mahkam Noi) is the smaller of the pair (noi means small or little), about 1km long with a wide, clean, sandy beach. Swimming is good here, and is is quite peaceful.
Thung Mahkam Yai is the larger of the pair (yai means big or large), about 4km long. The pale sand and shallow, clear water make this another good place for relaxing and swimming. There is a long, picturesque wooden jetty in the middle of the bay. This is not just for show - the tranquility is disturbed daily by the arrival of the Lomprayah catamaran. But despite this, Thung Mahkam Yai is a beautiful place, and well worth a visit.
There is limited accomodation available at Thung Mahkam Yai.
Khao Phong Phang Viewpoint
This viewpoint can be seen from the Thung Mahkam bays, and in turn offers a beautiful view of the two bays, Chumphon Sea, and several islands.
Looking south and west from the viewpoint you can see themangrove forests of Ao Thung Kha.
